The green cogwheel sea roller ( Stichopus chloronotus ) occurs in the western Indo-Pacific from the coast of East Africa over the Mascarene Mountains to Japan , Hawaii and the islands of the southern Pacific . Young animals live at depths of up to two meters on the coral debris of the reef terraces, they prefer zones with strong water movement. Older sea rollers live at depths of up to 15 meters in inner and outer reefs.

The Green Gear Sea Roller becomes 30 centimeters long. Their body cross-section is almost square. On the lateral edges of the back there are two double rows of large, conical papillae, the ends of which are red or orange. At the bottom it has three rows of tubular feet. The mouth is on the underside and is surrounded by 20 mouth tentacles. The anus is terminal. The species has no Cuvier tubes .
The Green Gear Sea Roller feeds by absorbing the soil, digesting the organic particles, detritus , algae and microorganisms and excreting the rest. A black scale worm often lives on their underside .
It is eaten by the barrel snail Tonna perdix . It comes onto the Trepang market as the “Greenfish” .
