The green point tetra or green point tetra ( Poecilocharax weitzmani ) is a freshwater fish that occurs in the upper Amazon , in the upper Rio Negro and the upper Orinoco . The species was named after Stanley H. Weitzman , an American ichthyologist and tetras expert.

features

The green-point predatory tetra grows 4 to 4.5 cm long, the female remains smaller. Its body is elongated, somewhat flattened on the sides and brownish or ocher in color. The sides are marked by a dark longitudinal band, which has two bluish, highly reflective rows of scales, and on top of that another orange to red longitudinal band. The caudal fin is reddish and has two white spots at its base. The anal fin is yellowish at the base, red at the edge and has black points in the middle. Males are more strongly colored.

Way of life

The fish live close to the ground and are shy of light. Sexually mature males are territory-forming . Females spawn on the underside of larger leaves and lay 60 to 80 eggs there. The fry hatch after about 36 hours. They are likely to be swarming.
