The Grünsee is located in the westernmost part of the Pflerscher Valley at an altitude of 1999  m slm , west of the Ochsenalm, from where it can also be reached. It is a protected natural monument .

As a typical mountain lake, the water is very clean ( water quality class I), but even in summer it is cold. The lake was created when the Feuerstein farmer withdrew. The lake gets fresh water on the one hand from rain and on the other hand from snowmelt, whereby the water sometimes turns green, hence the name Grünsee . The lake drains underground via the Pflerscher Bach and belongs to its headwaters.
