Hermann Schmidt-Rahmer

Hermann Schmidt-Rahmer (* 1960 in Düsseldorf ) is a German actor , incidental music composer , theater and opera director and university lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts .

education

After finishing school in 1979, Schmidt-Rahmer began studying drums at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. From 1980 to 1982 he studied musicology and philosophy at the University of Munich and from 1982 to 1986 he trained as an actor at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

Schmidt-Rahmer was engaged as an actor at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin from 1986 to 1987 , from 1987 to 1990 at the Schauspielhaus Cologne , and from 1990 to 1991 at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Vienna Burgtheater .

Director

Schmidt-Rahmer presented his first directorial work in 1990 at the Schauspiel Köln with Lost by Plino Marco . In 1991 he directed the play Golden West by Sam Shepard at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and from 1992 to 1996 he was senior director at the Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen .

In the period between 1996 and 2002, further engagements as a director followed, including at theaters in Ulm , Basel , Heidelberg and Braunschweig . His productions there include z. B. Clavigo and Torquato Tasso by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Ein Volksfeind by Henrik Ibsen , Attacks on Anne (Attempts on her life) by Martin Crimp and Der misanthrope by Molière .

At the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus , Schmidt-Rahmer staged Heart Step by Jan Neumann , Pariser Leben by Jacques Offenbach , The Black Rider by Robert Wilson , Tom Waits and William S. Burroughs, and Rechnitz by Elfriede Jelinek between 2008 and 2011 . In 2011 he also produced Ulrike Maria Stuart for Jelinek at Schauspiel Essen .

Schmidt-Rahmer was nominated for the German Theater Prize Der Faust 2011 with Rechnitz .

music

Schmidt-Rahmer worked from 1990 to 1991 as a stage music composer and as a musician in various avant-garde jazz / electronic formations. In 1991 he wrote the incidental music for the production of Manfred Karges The Conquest of the South Pole at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

Awards

Schmidt-Rahmer's production of Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time was awarded first prize at the NRW Theatertreffen 2004.

Schmidt-Rahmer received the Audience Award for Rechnitz at the Theatertreffen NRW 2011 in Wuppertal. The jury of the Theatertreffen NRW 2012 recognized his directorial work Ulrike Maria Stuart as the best production.
