The grave of Jonker Afrikaner is the burial place of the tribal leader of the Orlam Jonker Afrikaner in Okahandja , Namibia .
The Jonker African died here in 1861 from the consequences of an inflammation after he had settled down with his friend, Herero chief Tjamuaha , who fell seriously ill during a raid against the Ovambo . He was buried near the Rhenish mission station on Heroes Street near the Orlam-Afrikaner settlement .
The burial place, which is separated from the actual cemetery, is a flat grave made of uncut field stones. On the upper side a bronze plaque commemorates the tribal leader. A memorial plaque is attached to the front.
The grave of Jonker Afrikaner was declared a National Monument in Namibia on January 16, 1950 by the Council for National Heritage as the first object in the history of Namibia .
In 1970 the Herero leader Hosea Kutako was buried here , at his own request, next to Jonker Afrikaner's grave.
