The grave monument of the Reinhold Maus family is a grave monument on the Evangelical Reformed Cemetery Solinger Strasse in the Wuppertal district of Cronenberg . The family crypt was first occupied in May 1905.

description

On a high, polished and inscribed pedestal made of black Swedish granite , an approx. 1.5 meter high female angel figure , made as an electroplating , rises .

The figure, which symbolizes the ascent of the soul into heaven, has widely spread wings. The left arm points upwards, the right arm is on the body. The angel is dressed in a pleated robe. The figure has long, wavy hair that is held in place with a headband .

The tomb was built between 1900 and 1910 based on a design by the Wuppertal sculptor Höhmann, whose signature was H. HÖHMANN, HAHNERBERG. can be found on the pedestal. As evidenced by the signature GALVANOPL , the figure was made. KUNSTANSTALT / GEISLINGEN ST. on the plinth in the Galvanoplastische Kunstanstalt in Geislingen an der Steige , a branch of the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF).

Due to its figurative representation, which is typical of the time and which was popular between around 1885 and 1920, the tomb documents the beginning of the tomb industry, which is characterized by series production and the associated separation of artist and client (buyer). It is a testament to the technical and social development in the industrial age and was therefore placed under monument protection on November 23, 1993 .

A similar angel figure can be found in the Hamburg cemetery Ohlsdorf among others on the family graves of Awe (T14) and Keller (AB31 / 32), also carried out by the “Galvanopl. Kunstanstalt / Geislingen St. “.
