Two headbands

A headband (plural: headband ) is an approximately ring-shaped object, open at the bottom, to hold back the hair , especially the pony . Often it is also used as a hair ornament . Today it is mostly made of plastic . The diadem is a splendid variant . In their purpose, they are very similar to hairpins .

Headbands were already in use in the Romanesque period . The Schapel developed from the headbands used at the time . The popularity probably had something to do with the church's ban on wearing hair openly and lasted throughout the Middle Ages. It has been in increasing use again since the 1980s.
