Grave field of memory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The grave field of remembrance is part of cemeteries in the East Westphalian cities of Minden and Herford , where destitute people without relatives are buried in urn graves. In contrast to grave areas on which destitute deceased are buried anonymously, here the names with the dates of birth and death are given on tablets or steles . The funeral ceremony is performed by clergymen.

Minden

Occasion and care

Through the initiative of a social worker in the social therapeutic service of the Diakonisches Werk Minden and with the support of some guests at the Minden lunch table for the needy, as well as two volunteers, a grave site of remembrance was planned in 2007 and inaugurated in September 2007 and handed over to its destination. There penniless and single people from Minden and the region of the Minden church district can be buried.

Volunteers from the cemetery group of the Diakonie Stiftung Salem look after the grave field.

Grave complex

The 360 square meter grave field on the Mindener Nordfriedhof is designed as a triangle with a middle path and two cross paths. At the end of the Mittelweg there is a small square square with a planted flower bowl, on which there is a memorial stone with a Bible verse and memorial steles for the guests of the lunch table who were anonymously buried in previous years. The fields in front are intended for 40 to 50 urn graves and planted with ground cover and boxwood . The graves are provided with their own name boards (31.5 by 31.5 centimeters) with the dates of birth and death. The lawns in front of the next crossing are intended for 20 burials, but not yet occupied (as of 2018).

Suggestion and carrier

The inspiration for the Herford grave field of remembrance came from the Minden grave field. The idea for the Grabfeld originated in the Herford lunch table, which was founded in 1997, where poor people from Herford receive a warm meal every day. Previously, guests at the lunch table who had died were transferred to Bielefeld and buried anonymously there by the authorities.

The Herford lunch table is an initiative of the Evangelical Reformed Petri parish of Herford . The registered non-profit association is mainly financed by donations.

The grave field of memory is carried by the Herford lunch table e. V. , the Protestant Marienkirche community Stiftberg , the Catholic church community St. Johannes Baptist , the social counseling service of the Evangelical Diakoniestiftung Herford and the Hanseatic City of Herford .

Grave field

The grave field of remembrance was inaugurated in November 2008. It is part of the Marienfriedhofs of the Evangelical Lutheran Marienkirche community and is located in the middle of the south side of the cemetery. Every year around ten deceased are buried there, and they must have completed a decree. Information about possible relatives must also be given. If no relatives are found, the city of Herford bears the funeral costs. Since 2008, a stele has been set up for every year with the names of those who died in the respective calendar year. At the point where the urn was buried, there is a paving stone in the lawn. After the grave field was no longer sufficient for future burials, the midday table was allocated another piece in the cemetery by the parish in 2018.

TV service

On Sunday of the Dead in 2018, a TV service was broadcast from the Petrikirche on ZDF , in which the grave field of memory was presented and the destitute people who were buried there were commemorated. Guests at the lunch table were also involved in the liturgy .
