Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Lublin

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Polish: Grób Nieznanego Żołnierza ) was erected in the 1920s on the Lithuanian Square in Lublin , Poland . It is located in close proximity to the Memorial to the Constitution of May 3 .

The grave slab was created according to plans by Jerzy Jamuszkiewicz . Originally, there was a coffin with the remains of an unknown soldier from Lviv below . After the Second World War , the coffin was removed on the instructions of the communist authorities who were planning a central memorial to the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw . In memory of the soldier, a pink sandstone slab was placed with the inscription: NIEZNANY ŻOŁNIERZ POLEGŁ W WALCE O WYZWOLENIE NARODOWE I SPOŁECZNE(An unknown soldier, killed in the battle for national and social liberation). Further panels have been laid around the monument on the soil of various battlefields. The plates are labeled with the names and dates of the battles.
