The degree arch is a tool of the mark separator and belongs to the hanging equipment (surveying devices for mining).

The degree arc is used to measure inclinations relative to the horizontal line and is therefore an inclinometer or clinometer .

construction

The structure is simple: a semicircular arch made of brass or aluminum is provided with a division and hooks for hanging on a string. The plumb line shows the value on the graduation. The division starts from the Seiger line in the middle of the degree arc. Degree arcs were divided into 2 × 90 °. Since the introduction of the gon in surveying, arcs have been provided with a 2 × 100 g graduation, but they are still called arcs and not gon arcs. Degree bends are still used underground for simple surveying tasks, such as determining the inclination of a drill pipe.

The degree curve has now been replaced by more modern, including electronic, devices. Occasionally it is still used in cave exploration , often self-made. On the tether of a kite it enables determination and control of the line angle. Taking into account the length of the line (and possibly the sag), the height of the kite above ground can be calculated ( angle functions ).
