Fritz von Graevenitz Museum

The Graevenitz Museum , also known as Museum Fritz von Graevenitz , has housed selected works by the artist Fritz von Graevenitz since 1971 . It is located in a cavalier house in Stuttgart-West in the Solitude district near Gerlingen .

history

The entire ensemble of the Solitude Palace , which Duke Carl Eugen had built in 1763, includes the cavalier houses on the main avenue leading to the palace.

The von Graevenitz family had lived in one of these gentlemen's houses since 1906 . The sculptor Fritz von Graevenitz worked from 1921 until his death in 1959 on the so-called Werkplatz, which was on the garden side of house number 24 on Solitude. In this square were several studios and a barn that housed the artist's work. At the end of the 1960s, the studios were demolished for structural reasons.

Jutta von Graevenitz then looked for a way to exhibit her husband's work at Solitude, his work and living environment. In 1971 she founded the museum for the sculptor and painter Fritz von Graevenitz in house 24 on the Solitude. Selected works from his artistic oeuvre can be seen in the Graevenitz Museum.
