Graf Ulrich Building

The Graf-Ulrich-Bau is a gymnasium and festival hall built in 1936/1937 in Döffingen , a district of the Grafenau municipality in Baden-Württemberg . The building is named after Ulrich von Württemberg , who fell in the Battle of Döffingen in 1388 .

History of construction and use

The building was built according to the plans of the Sindelfingen architect Georg Bürkle and cost 68,000 Reichsmarks . In addition to the large hall, which is used for events and as a gym and has a capacity of 450 people, the Graf-Ulrich-Bau also had a youth room and a teacher's apartment when it opened.

In 1945 the Graf Ulrich Building was used to house Polish forced laborers and in 1946 for refugees . Until 1965 the school was located in the building, for which there were two classrooms, one for grades one to three and one for grades four to seven. A local history museum was under construction from 1965 to 1986. This so-called Heimatstube was relocated to the Dätzinger Schloss in 1986 .

Today the Graf-Ulrich-Bau serves as an event location, as a rehearsal room and to accommodate a kindergarten. A slide leads from the event hall to the cellar bar.
