Little Girl is a pop - ballad of Sandra from the year 1985th

Music and lyrics

The guitar for the pop ballad was played by Hubert Kah guitarist Markus Löhr , who can be heard at the end with a clean solo. Hubert Kah and Michael Cretu took over the background vocals. The lyrics are about a young woman who leaves Venice early in the morning on the train , where she has stayed without significant financial means to see Leonardo da Vinci's art. She knows she will never return. Their fate is contrasted with the “big boys” who are “all the same” and have no worries.

Creation and publication

The song was written by Michael Cretu, Hubert Kah, Markus Löhr and Klaus Hirschburger , the latter band members of Hubert Kah. Michael Cretu was a producer. Little Girl was released as a single on February 24, 1986 after it had appeared on the album The Long Play in November 1985 . The song is 3:11 minutes long in the single version. The maxi version is 5:09 minutes long. On the B-side there is the piece Sisters and Brothers . The single cover, which shows Sandra in a classic dress, was recorded by Dieter Eikelpoth and designed by Mike Schmidt and Ink Studios.

reception

The piece reached the top 40 in many countries such as Germany (14th place), Austria (27th place) and Switzerland (twelfth place). In Belgium ( Flanders ) it reached number 38. In South Africa it came to number 24. The song also reached high positions in the German (number 12) and Austrian (number 13) airplay charts.

Music video

An elaborate music video was shot for Little Girl in Venice in early 1986 . Mike Stiebel directed it. It starts with Sandra strolling across a columbarium and stopping in front of the plaque of a girl named Angela Venezia, who died in 1797. The plaque is decorated with the photo of the girl and a Venetian mask. Sandra sees the ghost of the girl at a canal and is then haunted by it. She sees her picture and mask in a restaurant, postcard stand, antique shop, and other places she visits. When the girl's ghost reappears, she follows, but is lured into a secluded courtyard where she is surrounded by a group of ghosts wearing carnival masks. Frightened, the singer runs away and in the last scene runs into the little girl again.

The clip was included on Sandra's VHS video compilations Ten on One (The Singles) and 18 Greatest Hits , which were released in 1987 and 1992, respectively, and on the 2003 DVD The Complete History.
