The Long Play is the first studio album by the German - French pop singer Sandra . It was released through Virgin on November 11, 1985.
Emergence
The album was produced by Michael Cretu . Guitar was played by Markus Löhr , guitarist for Hubert Kah . The latter was also involved in the songwriting of most of the pieces with Löhr and Klaus Hirschburger as well as Richard Palmer-James , Cretu in all of his own songs except the cover versions. Heartbeat (That's Emotion) is a cover of Steve Halls (aka Peter Ries, seen in Sandra's videos as bassist) song of the same name. Sisters and Brothers is an English language version of Cretu's song Timeless Journey from the 1983 album Legionaries .
The successful singles (I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena and In the Heat of the Night were released in July and November 1985 . The third single in February 1986 was the ballad Little Girl , for which an elaborate music video was shot in Venice .

The album reached number twelve in Germany, number 18 in Austria , number four in Switzerland , number eight in Norway and number two in Sweden .
The album reached gold status in Germany .
