Johnny Wanna Live is a protest song against cruelty to animals, especially the killing of animals for fur production. The name Johnny stands for all animals. It is a slow pop song played with synthesizers , which is also accompanied by an acoustic guitar.
Creation and publication
Johnny Wanna Live was written by Michael Cretu , Klaus Hirschburger (text) and Frank Peterson (music) and produced by Cretu. The song was originally released on Sandra's fourth studio album, Paintings in Yellow, in 1990, and subsequently remixed for her 1992 compilation, 18 Greatest Hits . The new version was released as a single to promote the greatest hits album. On the B-side is Mirrored in Your Eyes from Sandra's then current studio album Close to Seven .
The single was released on October 5, 1992 by Virgin . The extended version, which lasts 5:18 minutes, is also included on the maxi single. The design of the single comes from the agency Lmp (5), the cover picture, which shows Sandra in a skin-tight dress from diagonally above, was taken by Steffen Jagenburg.
Cover version
In 1993, Sarah Brightman , who was then dating Frank Peterson, covered the song on her album Dive .
