Secret Land is a pop song by Sandra from 1988. It is based on the song trenchcoat One of Fabrique from since 1987.
Creation and publication
The song was originally written as Trenchcoat Man by Uwe Gronau and Michael H. Höing by Fabrique. Hubert Kemmler aka Hubert Kah and Mats Björklund contributed the piano intro. Trenchcoat Man was released as a single by Ariola in 1987 . There was also a 12 "version that was released on a compilation in 2007 and 2013. However, these versions were largely unsuccessful.
Michael Cretu , Klaus Hirschburger and Susanne Müller-Pi also edited the version for Sandra, Michael Cretu produced it. Hubert Kah suggested the song to Cretu. Secret Land is a mid-tempo synth pop song. The lyrics describe the protagonist's feelings after a breakup.
The single was released on October 26, 1988 on Virgin Records in advance as the second single from the album Into a Secret Land . On the B-side is the song Into Nobody's Land (instrumental) . There is also a 6:44 minute maxi version, which is supplemented on the maxi single by the 3:33 minute dub mix. Secret Land appeared on numerous compilations and best-of albums.
Sandra appeared with the song on December 14, 1988 in the ZDF hit parade . He was in the show at number one of the titles determined by Media Control .
In 1999 a new version was released as Secret Land '99 .
Music video
The director of the music video was Bulle Bernd. It was shot in Normandy and shows the singer on a beach, among other places.
reception
The single reached high chart positions in European countries, including seventh place in Germany , 17th place in Austria and ninth place in Switzerland . In France the song came in at number 26, in Sweden at number 15 and in the Netherlands at number 81. The version Secret Land '99 reached number 69 in the German charts.
