In the Heat of the Night was released on November 4, 1985. The piece became a number one hit in Israel and a top ten hit in many countries such as Germany and Switzerland . The song is 3:48 minutes long in the single version. On the B-side is the instrumental piece Heatwave . In the Heat of the Night also appeared on the album The Long Play . The album version is 5:20 minutes, the extended version is 7:32 minutes. The background vocals are from Hubert Kah.
On November 30, 1985, Sandra performed the song at Peter's Pop Show in front of an international audience.
On both remix albums My Favorites (1999) and Reflections - The Reproduced Hits (2006) the song is represented in remixed versions. A year later, the French branch of Virgin Records commissioned two more remixes for Future Vision and Superfunk . These appeared on the limited edition of the album, digitally as a remix EP, but physically only as a 12 "promo maxi. There was also a new version of the compilation The Very Best Of in 2016, the Tropical Future Remix by masQraider Song was also used in the video game Dance Dance Revolution .
Music video
The music video was directed by Michael Bentele . In the video, Sandra and the musicians of her band performed the song on a set decorated similar to a sauna .
