Monsta X (also MONSTA X ; Hangeul : 몬스타 엑스 , McCune-Reischauer : Monsŭt'aeksŭ ) is a South Korean boy group consisting of six (formerly seven) members that was founded in 2015 by Starship Entertainment .

history

The group was put together through the elimination show No.Mercy , which was commissioned by Starship Entertainment and Mnet in December 2014 .

The group name "Monsta X" is based on a double meaning of "Monsters are conquering the K-Pop scene" and "Mein Stern" (Mon French for "mine"). The X symbolizes the unknown existence of it.

The band made their debut with the release of their first extended play , Trespass , on May 14th, 2015. This consists of seven different tracks, with Joohoney being the main contributor to the production of the album and several composed songs, including “One Love”, “Steal Your Heart ”and“ Blue Moon ”. Kihyun and Wonho wrote the lyrics for the album. On September 1, they released their second EP Rush .

The third EP Monsta X The Clan Pt. 1 Lost was released on May 18, 2016 with the title track "All In". On July 16 and 17, Monsta X gave their first solo concert, which was completely sold out within five minutes. The fourth EP formed the second part of the Clan series and was titled The Clan Pt. 2 guilty . It was released on October 4th. The EP contains six tracks, including the title track "Fighter".

In March 2017 Monsta X released their first studio album and at the same time the last part of the Clan series entitled The Clan Pt. 2.5: the Final Chapter and with the title track "Beautiful". On May 17th Monsta X made her debut in Japan under the new label Mercury Records Tokyo from Universal Music with her first Japanese song “Hero” and another Japanese version of the previously released Korean track “Stuck”. Her second Japanese single "Beautiful" was released on August 23rd. On November 7th, the fifth EP was released with the title The Code and the title track "Dramarama".

On April 25, 2018 Monsta X released their first Japanese album Piece with the title track "Puzzle", which contained the original titles of the previous Japanese single albums and four other songs. On October 7th, Monsta X announced their second full album titled Take.1 Are You There? on. The title track "Shoot Out" was released on October 22nd.

On January 20th, 2019 Monsta X announced a comeback in February with their third studio album Take.2 We Are Here "Alligator". In February Monsta X announced that Jooheon's stage name will be Joohoney from now on.

On October 31, 2019, it was announced that Wonho was leaving the group.
