The county of Dülmen was an imperial immediate but short-lived county in the Münsterland .

It was created on February 25, 1803 on the basis of the agreements of the Peace of Lunéville on February 9, 1801 and the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, to Auguste Philippe Duke of Croÿ (November 3, 1765 - October 19, 1822) for the loss of his to compensate areas on the left bank of the Rhine. The county consisted of the former office of Dülmen of the duchy of Münster, which was repealed in the course of secularization . The main town was the city of Dülmen , today in the Coesfeld district .

As early as July 1806, however, the county was mediated and incorporated into the Duchy of Arenberg-Meppen , which was also created in 1803 .

With Napoleon's annexation of the Münsterland, the area became part of the French Empire on December 13, 1810 . After the Congress of Vienna in 1815 it became part of the Prussian province of Westphalia .
