Gramophonedzie (actually Marko Miličević ) is a Serbian DJ from Belgrade .
biography
Miličević began DJing as a teenager and later produced music for commercials and films, including the theme music for the TV show Big Brother in his home country. He has also worked with Basement Jaxx , Roger Sanchez , Bob Sinclar and others.
The Serbian had an international hit under the project name Gramophonedzie , under which he has been publishing since 2006, with Why Don't You . The piece is based on the swing jazz song Why Don't You Do Right? in the 1947 recording by Peggy Lee , which is sampled in the piece. It was originally a blues song that Kansas Joe McCoy wrote for his Harlem Hamfats in 1936 and later revised and rewritten. Why Don't You became a dance floor hit in Ibiza in summer 2009 and conquered clubs in the rest of Europe in 2010. In March the song rose to number 2 on the British Dance Charts and number 12 on the UK Singles Chart.
At the MTV Europe Music Awards 2010 , Gramophonedzie won the regional award for the best artist in the Adriatic region.
