Grand Hotel Union

The Grand Hotel Union is a luxury hotel not far from Preseren Square in the center of the city of Ljubljana , the capital of Slovenia.

history

The earthquake of 1895 badly damaged the center of the city. In the course of the reconstruction, parts were redesigned. The hotel was built near the main square in 1903–1905 in Viennese Art Nouveau style by the architect Josip Vancaš and opened under the name Hotel Union .

The facade is almost 100 meters long, and its complex iron roof construction was considered a technical achievement of the time. The hotel has undergone two renovations since it was completed in 1905 but has retained its original style. A modern rear wing is designed for larger conferences. For a while the operator was Holiday Inn .

Café Union ( Unionska kavarna ) is located on the ground floor of the building .
