Grand Theft Auto Advance is the offshoot of the Grand Theft Auto series for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance . It is the first game in the series specifically designed for a mobile console. The USK approval from 12 years of age is also atypical for the series .

action

The protagonist Mike and his friend and mentor Vinnie have had a criminal career in the fictional, New York City- modeled city of Liberty City . Together, the two want to finally leave the city with their criminally earned money and start a new life in another place. However, Vinnie persuades Mike to do a few last jobs before the two finally withdraw from Liberty City. On the last of these jobs, Mike watches helplessly as Vinnie appears to be killed by a car bomb in a parking lot. From then on, Mike tries to clear up the background of Vinnie's murder and to find the perpetrator. He got to know some underground giants in Liberty City, such as Asuka Kasen, the head of the Yakuza in Liberty City, Cisco, one of the main players in the Colombian drug cartel, and King Courtney, the leader of a Jamaican gang. Mike later finds out that his former partner Vinnie was just faking his death and ran off with the two of them money. Mike swears revenge and from now on tries to hold Vinnie accountable.

The plot partially overlaps with that of GTA III , many well-known characters from there also appear in GTA Advance.

Gameplay

As in the first two parts on PlayStation or PC , the game is played from a 2D bird's eye view. Graphically, GTA Advance is a mix of the original Grand Theft Auto and GTA III . The game was originally intended to be a one-to-one implementation of GTA III . In the later course of development, however, this idea was discarded and an independent background story was drawn up. At the same time, the city of Liberty City, where GTA Advance takes place, has been slightly adjusted and adapted to the limited possibilities of the Game Boy Advance.

Due to the low resolution and the imprecise controls, the game is often perceived as the weakest part of the series.

The Game Boy Advance version of Digital Eclipse was programmed with the support of Rockstar North .
