features

butterfly

The wingspan of the moth is 75 to 90 millimeters. There is no sexual dimorphism between the sexes . Both sexes have the same drawing elements. From the front edge four black stripes are on the front wing upper surface to the media vein or just below. In English usage, the species is therefore called Four-bar Swordtail ( four-bar swordtail). Another, longer black stripe runs along the submarginal region and meets the outer edge at an angle . The hem is also colored black. Long black tail appendages are located on the dark gray colored anal corner of the hind wings with a red spot . The drawing of the bottom is similar to the top. However, the two inner black stripes are significantly longer and reach the inner edge .

Similar species

The moths of the similar species Graphium antiphates differ in that five black stripes run on the upper side of the forewing , which is why they are referred to as Fife-bar Swordtail in English .

distribution and habitat

The range of the species includes India , Thailand , Laos , Malaysia , Indonesia as well as the southeast of China . Five subspecies are currently known in the various occurrence areas .

Graphium agetes primarily inhabits evergreen deciduous forests and river banks.

Way of life

The moths fly mainly in the months of January to April. While the females visit flowers to take in nectar, the males, sometimes in numbers, suckle on the ground at damp places in the earth in order to take in liquids and minerals. Details on the species' way of life have yet to be researched.
