The gray noise bird ( Corythaixoides concolor ) belongs to the turaco family (Musophagidae).

This species is easy to identify with its long tail feathers, crest and gray plumage. Adult animals reach a body size of 48 cm. The bird often appears in smaller groups and is very vocal (hence its name). The sound of his call is reminiscent of "Go Away", which has given him the name "Go away Bird" in the English-speaking world.

The appearance of male and female birds is the same. Fledglings have more puffy plumage and a shorter crest.

distribution and habitat

The noisy gray bird is found in Namibia , Zimbabwe , northern Botswana and the northern part of South Africa and Natal . Its habitat is the bushland and open forests. He is also at home in the suburban gardens of Pretoria and Witwatersrand. The gray noise bird is widespread and not endangered.

Food and subsistence

The noisy gray bird feeds mainly on fruits and fruits (e.g. wild figs and berries), termites, snails, flowers, buds and leaves.
