Grauer's big shrew ( Paracrocidura graueri ), also called Itombwe- eyelash shrew , is only known to date from the holotype from the Itombwe Mountains in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the northwestern shore of Lake Tanganyika .
features
Grauer's shrews are medium-sized shrews with a short and thick coat of dark brown color. The head-trunk length of the holotype is 8.3 cm, the tail length is 4.6 cm. The ears are conspicuous but small and not covered with fur. The fore and hind feet are pale and covered with very short hair on the top. The tail is of medium length (approx. 55% of the head-torso length), monochrome and slightly lighter than the fur on the back. The skull has a long rostrum and a long brain skull. The first incisor is long and has a cusp, the third molar is particularly wide.
Way of life
Grauer's big-headed shrew lives in Afromontane forests . Almost nothing is known about the way of life of these shrews.
The endangerment level of the species is not known, the IUCN lists it under "insufficient data" ( data deficient ).
