Greenside Church
The Greenside Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in Edinburgh . It is located on Royal Terrace at the north foot of Calton Hill.
history
The church is at a point where in the Middle Ages, a monastery of Carmelite had found. This monastery was abandoned after the Reformation in Scotland and the building was initially used as an accommodation for lepers before it fell into disrepair.
The current church is a neo-Gothic building by the architect James Gillespie Graham . It was completed on October 6, 1839.
organ
The organ was built in 1933 by the organ builder Ingram & Company (Edinburgh) and extensively revised in 1964 by the organ builder Henry Willis & Sons (London). The instrument was last restored in 1993 by the organ builder Rushworth & Dreaper (Liverpool). The organ has 21 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are electro-pneumatic.
