Greg Steinke
Greg Steinke (* 1942 ) is an American composer, oboist and music teacher.
Steinke studied at Oberlin College Conservatory , Michigan State University, and the University of Iowa . His teachers were Joseph Wood , H. Owen Reed , Richard Hervig , Paul Harder, and Lawrence Moss . He was professor of composition, music theory, and oboe at Ball State University and the University of Arizona , directed the music department at San Diego State University, and was dean of the College of Fine Arts at Millikin University . In addition, he held the Joseph Naumes Chair of Music at Marylhurst University until 2001 .
As principal oboist Steinke specializes in contemporary music, he also played in various chamber music ensembles and was principal oboist of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra . He was a prizewinner of the first international composition competition at the University of Louisville (1979), the composer competition of the Bergen Festival (1994) and the Delta Omicron Composition Competition (2002).
