F3B

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

F3B is a model airplane - competitive class in the international air sports . The regulations for these competitions are established by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in agreement with the national associations. The individual characters mean: F = model flight division, 3 = radio-controlled model flight, B = glider flight

There are 3 different flight tasks that have to be completed with the same model, although very different designs of the models would be necessary for the optimal fulfillment of the individual tasks.

Time flight

After take-off, you must fly for exactly 10 minutes if possible. The landing is carried out as a target landing, which is also included in the assessment. The priority is usually as little sink as possible.

Cross-country flight

After the high start, a 150 m distance is flown through as often as possible. The tactics are particularly crucial here. Just like a model that has the best possible glide ratio.

Speed flight

The 150 m route is flown 4 times in the shortest possible time. So there are three 180 ° turns. The lowest possible air resistance is advantageous for the design .

High start

The high start is considered by many pilots to be the most important discipline, as it comes before any other flight task. A good starting altitude improves the chances of good flight results enormously. The model must provide the highest possible lift here.

The start is with electric winches, which are subject to strict regulations. The necessary energy is provided by (also regulated) lead-acid batteries from automotive technology. High-performance nylon ropes are used as the starting rope, which are returned to the launch site at a distance of 200 m via a pulley.
