Gregor Brentel (* before / around 1515 in Lauingen ; † 1567 ibid.) Was a Swabian master builder who lived and worked in Lauingen his entire life.

Life

Gregor Brentel was probably an older cousin of the painters Georg Brentel the Elder and Hans Brentel . It is mentioned for the first time in 1535 in the tax register. It is believed that he was married for the first time at this point, but the name of his first wife is not known. At that time he lived in front of Kramergasse . On October 14, 1538, Brentel bought Hans Koler's house at the beginning of Kramergasse for 116 fl 40 kr and lived there until 1563. In the 1540s he was busy building the Lauinger St. Martin's Church. With his second wife, Barbara geb. Steichele, he had a daughter Maria. After the death of the second wife, he signed a marriage contract with his third wife Barbara geb. Mauter and at the same time an inheritance contract for his daughter from the second marriage. From 1563, his tax payments decreased, which indicates a decrease in professional activity. Since he was not yet old, a protracted illness can be assumed. In 1565 he moved to the Ried , where he died after about two years. Gregor Brentel's third marriage probably had a son, whose first name has not yet been identified.
