Gregor Lederwasch I

Gregor Lederwasch I (* 16th century or 17th century; † 1685 in Tamsweg ) was an Austrian painter and founder of the Lederwasch family of painters . His sons and students were Christof Lederwasch and Gregor Lederwasch II († 1725, Tamsweg). The latter is mostly known as a barrel painter .

He was a student of Onuphrinus Rosenheimer and worked in Tamsweg from 1653. Gregor Lederwasch I painted the pictures of the Marien Altar in Mauterndorf in 1656 and took hold of the high altar of St. Leonhard (together with Georg Haim ), in 1667 he took the Lorenz altar, in 1675 he painted and took the altar of grace, and in 1686 the oratorios of the church.

From 1665 he was sacristan of the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard ob Tamsweg , an office that has been held by descendants of the Lederwasch family without interruption to this day.
