Gregor Robertson

Gregor Robertson (* 1965 ) is a Canadian politician and entrepreneur . He has been Mayor of Vancouver since November 15, 2008 . He was previously a member of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly .

Robertson studied English at Colorado College . In 1994 he co-founded the medium-sized company Happy Planet , which produces organic foods (mainly fruit juices and soups). He joined the social democratic British Columbia New Democratic Party and successfully ran for a seat in the provincial parliament in 2005 in the constituency of Vancouver-Fraserview. Robertson was primarily a champion of education and small and medium-sized businesses .

In February 2008, Robertson announced that he would run for Mayor of Vancouver. He secured the nomination of the local party Vision Vancouver and resigned as a provincial MP in June 2008. In the local elections on November 15, 2008, he received 55% of the vote, while Vision Vancouver won an absolute majority on the city council. In Robertson's first term of office, the 2010 Winter Olympics fell , which were held in Vancouver and the surrounding area.
