Greta Oechsner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greta Oechsner (born July 9, 1885 ; † December 1959 ; nee Becker ) was a German donor.

Career

Oechsner was the granddaughter of the Franconian choir composer Valentin Eduard Becker . In memory of him, she donated the Valentin Becker Prize for composers in 1951 to promote song maintenance . It was awarded for the first time in 1953 and has been awarded every two years since then (every three years since 2006). Originally, she planned her hometown Würzburg for the award of the award. Her nephew Rudolf Schäffer convinced her that the spa town of Bad Brückenau was better suited for this.

She covered the cost of the award ceremony and the accompanying gala concert from her own resources and with the help of donations that she made together with her husband, the factory director Adam Oechsner.
