The Greek National Broadcasting Council ( Greek Εθνικό Συμβούλιο Ραδιοτηλεόρασης Ethnikó Symvoúlio Radiotileórasis (ESR) ) is an independent authority in Athens and, according to the Constitution of Greece, is responsible for the control, establishment and evaluation of radio and television.

The ESR was established in 1989 by Law 1866 by the Greek Parliament . The first meeting took place in November of the same year. The individual areas of responsibility are taken over by separate departments. These are staffed by specialized staff from various disciplines, the composition being determined by the director. There is also a council.

Technical department

The technical department is responsible for checking compliance with the technical standards for the broadcasting stations and is involved in all relevant scientific programs that develop new technologies for broadcasting or change existing ones.

Logistic department

The logistics department organizes the work of the employees. She is also responsible for dealing with economic issues and the provision of material and supports the Council in the areas of IT systems and telecommunications .

Licensing and Legality Department

The department grants, extends or changes licenses to free radio and TV stations on the one hand, such as amateur radio or network stations that offer all technical means for transmission and signal processing for download (so-called streaming media ) and, on the other hand, to companies operating in the commercial Broadcasting and broadcast their programs via terrestrial channels .
