The Greek blue pillow ( Aubrieta deltoidea ) is a species of the genus blue pillow ( Aubrieta ) in the cruciferous family .

features

The Greek blue pillow is a perennial cushion plant that reaches heights of 5 to 20 centimeters. The plant has loose grass and appears gray due to the star-shaped branched trichomes. The fruit pens are clearly set off. The crown is blue, purple, pink, red, or white.

Flowering time is from April to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The Greek blue pillow occurs in Sicily , in the southern Balkans , in the Aegean and in western Turkey in montane rock corridors.

use

The Greek blue pillow is widely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and on dry stone walls, as well as a ground cover and as a forage plant for bees. It has been in culture since the late 18th century. By crossing other species, numerous varieties have emerged, with large, partly double flowers and also yellowish or whitish flower edges.
