The Griffiths Bay is a 10-km long and 7 km wide bay at the Nordenskjöld Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located on the north bank of the Longing Peninsula .
The bay was created in 1995 when the Prince Gustav Ice Shelf broke up . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2008 after the British geophysicist Donald Harrison Griffiths (1919-2007) from the University of Birmingham , a pioneer of marine geophysics in Antarctica and Africa .
