history
In 1954, when three forest workers were spending their lunch break at the source of the Bächlesbach, they had the idea of building a grotto at this place, which they found very beautiful.
The head forester at the time had refused this place after several discussions with the workers. Instead, he suggested a meadow in the ground. With the help of the forest warden , who was very committed to the site of the source, the proposed site was taken for construction.
The three forest workers dug a path to the square, prepared it and seized the spring. All work was done on a voluntary basis . The grotto was built from heavy spade stones. The Mother of God and the Bernadette figure were ordered in Walldürn and paid for by the forest workers.
The grotto was consecrated on May 1st, 1955. Since then there has been a pilgrimage every year. On May 1, 2005, Bishop Friedhelm Hofmann visited the Lourdes Grotto on the occasion of the 50th anniversary.
