Great Austrian Youth Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Great Austrian Youth Prize , later known as the First Austrian Youth Prize and RIZ-First Youth Prize , honored submissions from young people on technical, scientific, social and artistic topics.

history

The Great Austrian Youth Prize was founded by Erste Österreichische Sparkasse in 1978. After the bank changed its name in the mid-1980s, the prize was known as the First Austrian Youth Prize . The award was given for technical, social and artistic areas and was aimed at young people, initially up to the age of 26, which was later reduced. Every year the youth award was advertised on a specific topic, whereby the jury defined this broadly for the artistic submissions. When the prize was first advertised, the later children's book author Thomas Brezina was honored, and in 1983 author Klaus Ebner .

For example, the topics for the call for applications for 1983 were defined as four categories : Category 1 People and Society with the special topic Communication between the Generations , Category 2 Environment and Quality of Life with the special topic Survival Concepts , Category 3 Art, Literature and Music with the special topic Stories about Coexistence and Category 4 Science and Technology with the special topic of computers . These topics were related to the Year of Communication , which was proclaimed by the UN in 1983. In 1988 the youth award on the subject of the 21st century was announced.

With the change in the winners of the youth award, the name also changed. In the 1990s the award became the RIZ-Erste-Jugendpreis and later the NÖ-Sparkasse-RIZ-Jugendpreis . The prize is now aimed at schoolchildren between the ages of 14 and 19 and honors "creative and future-oriented ideas" that can be implemented in terms of research or business. Artistic works are no longer supported.
