The megalithic graves near Glücksburg are four megalithic graves from the Neolithic funnel beaker culture near the town of Glücksburg in the Schleswig-Flensburg district , Schleswig-Holstein .

description

The four graves do not form a coherent group, but are spread over a wide area in the forest areas surrounding Glücksburg . Graves 1 and 2 are located about one kilometer northeast of the city in Friedeholz and are only a few meters apart. To the west of the urban area, about one kilometer northwest of the castle , is grave 3 in the Groß-Tremmerup forest . Grave 4 is also located in the Groß-Tremmerup forest, about 1.3 kilometers southwest of Glücksburg Castle.

Grave 1

Grave 1 belongs to the type of enlarged dolmen and is oriented north-south. The burial mound has a diameter of about 9 m. Surrounding stones are no longer available. Only three wall stones remain of the burial chamber, which are two carrier stones on the east side and the southern end stone. The wall stones on the west and north side and the two cap stones are no longer preserved. The entrance to the burial chamber was probably in the southeast corner. The chamber was about 1.50 m long and about 1.00 m wide. Ernst Sprockhoff lists the grave as number 17 in his Atlas of Megalithic Tombs.

Grave 2

Grave 2 is an east-west oriented ancient dolmen . The burial mound has a diameter of about 8–9 m. An encirclement could not be determined here either. The burial chamber consists of four wall stones and a cap stone. The wall stones measure between 1.40 m and 1.50 m and are strongly inclined inwards. The capstone was blown into three pieces and in 1936 was still outside the burial chamber. During a later restoration it was put together and put on again. The chamber has a length of 2.00 m and a width between 0.70 m and 0.80 m. Ernst Sprockhoff lists the grave as number 18 in his atlas of megalithic tombs.

Grave 3

Grave 3 is like grave 1 an extended dolmen and orientated northeast-southwest. The grave mound can only be guessed at, there is no enclosure here either. Only three wall stones have survived from the grave chamber: two bearing stones on the northwest side and the northeast end stone. Originally the grave probably consisted of two pairs of bearing stones, the capstone, an entrance stone in the southwest and a capstone. The dimensions of the chamber are estimated to be 1.60 m long and 1.10 m wide. Ernst Sprockhoff lists the grave as number 19 in his atlas of megalithic tombs.

Grave 4

Grave 4 only consists of three stones and it is uncertain whether it is really the remains of a large stone grave. Only one of the stones is still in place ; it could be a bearing stone. A burial mound could not be found. Ernst Sprockhoff lists the grave as number 20 in his atlas of megalithic tombs.
