Great stone graves near Letnin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Letnin (also called megalithic graves near Lettnin ) were at least ten megalithic graves of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Letnin ( German Lettnin ), a district of Gmina Pyrzyce (German Pyritz ) in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . They were destroyed in the 19th century.

location

Grave 1 was 800 paces (approx. 600 m) south of the village, grave 2 another 400 paces (approx. 300 m) south-east. Grave 3 was 400 paces (approx. 300 m) west and grave 4 200 paces (approx. 150 m) southeast of grave 2. In the vicinity of these graves there were other structures, most of which were probably burial mounds. About 2,000 paces (approx. 1.5 km) southeast of Letnin were graves 5–10 close together. Immediately to the east of this group were the megalithic graves at Myśliborki ( megalithic graves near Mützelburg).

description

Grave 1

Grave 1 had a north-south oriented burial chamber in an elongated hill. Around 1825, four wall stones were still preserved on the western and two on the eastern long side, as well as one end stone each on the narrow sides. Originally the chamber probably had three cap stones. The exact dimensions of the system have not been handed down. It should have been a large dolmen or a passage grave.

Grave 2

Grave 2 had a north-west-south-east oriented trapezoidal barn bed . The exact dimensions of the system have not been handed down. At the southeast head end the bed was divided by a row of stones standing across. Nothing is known about a burial chamber.

Grave 3

Grave 3 had an east-west orientated rectangular or trapezoidal barn bed. The exact dimensions of the system have not been handed down. Nothing is known about a burial chamber.

Grave 4

Grave 4 had a north-north-west-south-south-east oriented, approximately rectangular barn bed, which was slightly wider at the ends than in the middle. The exact dimensions of the system have not been handed down. Some stones at the north end of the bed may have belonged to a burial chamber.

Grave 5-10

These graves all had east-west oriented trapezoidal barn beds with the front side in the east and the narrow side in the west. The exact dimensions of the systems have not been handed down. Nothing is known about burial chambers.
