Robert Holsten

Robert Holsten (born May 20, 1862 in Langenhanshagen , † December 13, 1954 in Greifswald ) was a German educator and folklorist .

Life

Robert Wilhelm Johannes Philipp Holsten was the eldest son of the landlord Friedrich Holsten (1833–1918). His brother Max (1865–1949) became a bookseller in Szczecin. His sister Franziska (1870–1951) married a son of the Gützkower superintendent Peter Gottfried Dankwardt († 1882).

Robert Holsten graduated from high school in Stralsund in 1880 and then studied ancient languages in Leipzig and Greifswald . In 1884 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. He was a teacher in several German cities, in 1898 senior teacher at the König-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Stettin and from 1907 to 1927 director of the Bismarck-Gymnasium in Pyritz . Holsten had been a privy councilor since 1918. He then worked at the University of Greifswald as a recognized folklorist. In 1934 he was awarded the silver Leibniz Medal by the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

Robert Holsten was married to Katharina Colditz (1870–1964) and had eight children with her.
