Oetzendorf large stone grave

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave in Oetzendorf was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Oetzendorf , a district of Weste in the district of Uelzen ( Lower Saxony ). It was documented by Georg Otto Carl von Estorff in the 1840s and destroyed in the further course of the 19th century.

location

The grave was located southeast of Oetzendorf and northeast of Absunder on Wohldhaide. There were originally numerous other large stone graves in the vicinity: to the north were the large stone graves at Höver , to the northeast the large stone graves at Weste , south the large stone graves at Oetzen , to the southwest the large stone graves at Masendorf , to the west the large stone graves at Heitbrack , to the northwest the large stone graves at Jingastorf and the large stone graves at Jastorf Hesebeck . With the exception of a grave near Masendorf, these facilities were all destroyed in the 19th century.

description

The grave was built on a flat artificial elevation. It had a south-west-north-east oriented rectangular barren bed with a length of 20 paces (approx. 15.6 m) and a width of 6 paces (approx. 4.7 m). From the enclosure 19 stones were preserved, which were between 3 and 4 feet (approx. 0.9-1.2 m) high. At the northeast end was the burial chamber. When von Estorff took it, it was so covered with field stones that he could no longer determine its dimensions and its original appearance.
