The large stone grave Weddingstedt (also called Steenoben ) is a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Weddingstedt in the district of Dithmarschen , Schleswig-Holstein . It bears the Sprockhoff number 137.

location

The grave is located southwest of Weddingstedt on the municipal boundary to Ostrohe . It is located in a wooded area just a few meters west of the road that connects both places (Ostroher Strasse when coming from Weddingstedt or Am Steenoben when coming from Ostrohe).

description

The complex has a north-east-south-west oriented burial chamber with a length of 3.5 m and a width of 1.6 m. The grave originally had three pairs of wall stones on the long sides. All three stones are still present on the northwest side; the two outer ones are still in situ , the middle one is inclined slightly inward. On the southeast side, the two outer wall stones are still preserved; the western one is in situ. The southwest corner stone is still in its original position. Only the northern half of the north-eastern end stone has been preserved. The grave originally had two capstones. Of these, the smaller south-western one has been preserved. The larger north-eastern capstone was removed after the First World War for the construction of a war memorial in Weddingstedt. Ernst Sprockhoff suspects access to the chamber at the east end of the south-eastern long side and thus classifies the complex as a passage grave of the Holstein Chamber sub-type .
