Grotto à la peinture
The grotto à la peinture , discovered in 1959, is a richly decorated cave north of Larchant on the northern flank of the Roche au Diable massif, in the Seine-et-Marne department in France . It is an example of the rock engravings in the Fontainebleau forest in the Île-de-France region . Traces of red ocher adorn the ceiling and gave it its name.
The cave was excavated by Jacques Hinout in the early 1980s .
There were numerous punctures from bars, tree and vulva-like engravings and some modern graffiti.
A sandstone block with grooves was in contact with the Mesolithic layer (7000 BC), in which the remains of human activities (flint from the Sauveterrien, calcined hazelnuts, bones of deer, deer, wild boar and rabbits) were also found.
