history

The company goes back to Stouky et Friederich in Lausanne, who were active in the paper trade in the 19th century . Joseph Baumgartner, who came from Cham , first started working there in 1887, later became a partner and bought the company in 1924. He diversified together with his sons Pierre (1903–1965), Maurice (1899–1976) and André (1907–1980) the company. Paper processing was added to wholesaling and, from 1937, the production of cigarette filters . In 1947 a branch was opened in Zurich, which was relocated to Brunegg in 1975. The adventurous management by Pierre Baumgartner led to the bankruptcy of the family business in 1957.

In the same year, under the management of his brother Maurice, the activities were reorganized and continued under the new listed Baumgartner Papiers SA . In 1971 the head office was relocated to Crissier. With Jacques Baumgartner, who took over the chairmanship of the board of directors from 1991, the third generation joined the company in 1977. He further expanded the company and turned it into an internationally active group of companies with four business areas and several locations abroad. Its activities included the four areas of food packaging, cigarette filters and felt cartridges for writing implements, envelopes and paper for the graphics industry.

The difficult industry environment characterized by fierce competition brought the company into a serious crisis from 2001 onwards. The Groupe Baumgartner Holding was forced to take various restructuring measures as a result. This led to the sale or closure of almost all areas, as well as the focus on the packaging business for the food industry.

In 2007 Jacques Baumgartner resigned from his position as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the heavily resized company, which has been profitable again since 2004. In 2008 Groupe Baumgartner Holding was taken over by the industrial group Behr Bircher Cellpack BBC . This plans to integrate the only remaining subsidiary, Compagnie Franco Suisse SAS, into its own group.
