Growing Power is a US non-profit organization that campaigns for urban agriculture in poor areas. Growing Power Inc. is headquartered in Milwaukee , Wisconsin .

The organization was founded in 1993 as a project in Milwaukee by Will Allen, a farmer and former NBA basketball player, and some teenagers. Everyone offered them work and grow their own food to support the community.

Growing Power is committed to sustainable , regional food production in the form of kitchen gardens , aquaponics systems (combined fish and plant breeding), worm composting , beekeeping and small livestock farming in cities. It is about social justice, nutrition and the environment. She implements her concerns in the form of hands-on courses, demonstration systems, public relations and technical support. Facilities include seven large greenhouses, a kitchen, practice gardens, and food dispensers. Growing Power employs 140 people (as of 2016) and is supported by around 2000 volunteers.

In 2008, Allen received the MacArthur Foundation's $ 500,000 Genie Award for his work on urban agriculture and sustainable food production . The organization also operates other farms such as in Madison (Wisconsin) and Chicago . The concept of Growing Power found numerous imitators. The facilities have thousands of visitors every year.
