The Grubenmann Museum on the south-eastern outskirts of Teufen is a museum about the history of the Grubenmann family of builders. The museum has been housed in the Zeughaus in Teufen since June 2012.

Hans Ulrich Grubenmann

In the 18th century, the Grubenmann family provided some of the most important engineers and architects in wood construction such as Jakob , Johannes and Hans Ulrich Grubenmann , sons of Ulrich Grubenmann . A specialty of the builders were the large spans of their buildings, which were made possible by the trick of the hanging structure .

Models of the bridges, most of which have not been preserved, can be seen in the collection. Models of church roof trusses and spire helmets as well as old carpentry tools are also presented. A slide show about the life of the builders is available in German, English and French.

The Grubenmann Collection Foundation was established in 2007. It has set itself the goal of further researching the work of the Grubenmann brothers and of presenting the exhibits in the collection in a larger context and in suitable rooms.
