Jakob Grubenmann

Jakob Grubenmann (born January 10, 1694 in Teufen , Appenzell Ausserrhoden , † October 5, 1758 in Hombrechtikon , Zurich ) was a Swiss builder.

Life

Jakob Grubenmann was born in Teufen as the first son of the carpenter and master builder Ulrich Grubenmann (1668–1736). Grubenmann married Magdalena Oertli, the daughter of the Landammann, in 1731. Jakob Grubenmann had two sons, Hans Jakob (1745–1816) and Hans Ulrich (1753–1805), both of whom took up other professions.

He made a name for himself especially in the reconstruction of Bischofszell after the fire in 1743, where he built 13 houses together with his younger brothers Johannes and Hans Ulrich .
He also built at least 23 Reformed and Catholic churches in all of Eastern Switzerland and in neighboring countries.
