Samuel Friedrich Hassel
Samuel Friedrich Hassel (born September 9, 1798 in Frankfurt am Main ; † February 3, 1876 there ) was a German singer (bass), popular actor and comedian .
Life
Hassel made his debut at the Frankfurt Theater at the age of 16. In 1816 he sang "Rodrigo" in Peter von Winter's opera Maria von Montalban, his first solo part. In 1818 he was appointed second bass player to Mainz , but returned to Frankfurt in 1821 despite great success. From then on he only appeared at the Frankfurt Theater for 45 years until his farewell performance on March 26, 1866.
Hassel was an extremely popular singer and actor. He played a leading role in almost every local piece in Frankfurt that premiered between 1820 and 1866. For over forty years he was the “Citizen Capitain” in the comedy of the same name by Carl Malß , and for over thirty years he was the “jumping jack” in Malß's country party to Königstein . His voluntary restriction to the Frankfurt theater and the local genre prevented national recognition, but because of his versatility he was one of the great stage artists of his time.
On October 31, 1875, he appeared again in a charity event. Hassel died on February 3, 1876 and was buried in the Frankfurt main cemetery.
