Grude (coke)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grude or Grudekoks refers to coke residues that are created in lignite - carbonisation for paraffin and mineral oil production . The Grude remains in the retorts or smoldering ovens after the tar has been driven off . The green coke is black, powdery, easily flammable, burns slowly, calmly and smoldering and is therefore suitable for achieving a mild, even heat. It was used for small iron cooking machines, so-called ground stoves . Grude used to be an inexpensive fuel as there was no other use for it.

One of the main producers of Grudekoks was the lignite smelting works in the Central German Revier , for example A. Riebeck'schen Montanwerke .
