The elementary school Freiraum Oldenburg , according to its own spelling, elementary school FREIraum , is one of two independent schools in Oldenburg . The Freiraum elementary school has been the first school to be founded in the city of Oldenburg for 30 years; it is the smallest school in Oldenburg. It is a state-recognized substitute school (private school) according to § 142ff Lower Saxony School Act (NSchG) in the legal form of the non-profit sponsoring association FREIraum Oldenburg eV The logo of the elementary school Freiraum symbolizes free-flying balloons.
history
On August 5th, 2010 the elementary school Freiraum Oldenburg started for the school year 2010/11 in a landscape protection area of Oldenburg- Bümmerstede and was housed there on a historical listed courtyard from the year 1801. Approval as a substitute school took place on August 2, 2010. For the 2014/15 school year, the school moved to Oldenburg-Osternburg and was integrated into the Freiraum education center .
concept
According to the concept, the basis of the pedagogy is a combination of alternative pedagogies based on Maria Montessori . Due to the legal situation - Basic Law §7 and Lower Saxony School Act - a primary school must demonstrate a special educational interest in the concept. In the FREIraum elementary school, this is guaranteed by the fact that learning is self-organized and self-determined across all ages, without necessarily having to adhere to a fixed schedule. The school is also based on the principles of democratic schools . The FREIraum elementary school is single-class due to its concept, there is a single mixed-age learning group from 1st to 4th grade. Most of the learning is done in free work ; independent learning should provide ideal preparation for scientific or economic activity through individual support from the learning coaches.
Specifics of the curriculum
There is an individual accompaniment of the students instead of a frontal lesson . Many curricular requirements are learned in free work and through interdisciplinary project work . Maria Montessori's findings are implemented in both the pedagogy and the material. The students also actively learn democratic structures ( school assembly ).
